Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

About Our Program

Today, millions are treated for depression. Unfortunately for many people, treating depression with antidepressants either doesn't work or causes unpleasant side effects. If you have symptoms of depression or have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Dr. Craig Vine offers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) at Psych Recovery, Inc., and it is as a viable alternative treatment for depression.

TMS Therapy gives new hope for recovery from depression.

Dr. Vine offers TMS therapy using an advanced medical device called the NeuroStar TMS Therapy System. It is a safe and effective alternative to antidepressant medication for treating depression.

TMS has been proven in clinical trials as a safe and effective alternative treatment for all types of depression. The FDA-approved (in October 2008) NeuroStar TMS Therapy® has shown positive results in treating patients suffering from major depressive disorder, all of whom had not reported satisfactory improvement with previous antidepressant medication.

What to Expect

Your NeuroStar TMS Therapy® treatment session is a short outpatient procedure lasting less than 20 minutes. You relax in the treatment chair in a comfortable setting. This non-invasive, alternative depression treatment doesn't require anesthesia or sedation, so you can immediately return to your normal routine, including driving.

A typical course of TMS treatment occurs 5 days a week for approximately 36 sessions. The length of treatment may depend on how you respond to the therapy. Keep in mind that TMS therapy does not work immediately; while some patients may show improvement after only 2 weeks, others with longstanding depression may require more than 6 weeks of treatment.

Consultation

As every patient is different and experiences different symptoms of depression, seeing Dr. Vine for an in-depth consultation is the best way to determine whether or not TMS is the most appropriate treatment for you. Dr. Vine's assessment includes reviewing your symptoms and treatment history, discussing your treatment goals, and how TMS may help you reach those goals. Our treatment philosophy is simply that every person is unique, and each consultation is treated as such.
